About The Acupuncture Needles Used
There aren’t many people out there who LIKE needles, so there are always questions about how painful acupuncture is, and how large the acupuncture needles are.
First and most importantly, acupuncture is not at all a painful process.
The second most important point to make: The acupuncture needles used are ALWAYS disposable and only used one time.
Acupuncture needles are very thin (think “cat whisker”). They come encased in plastic tubing so that Acupuncturist Grant Collins is able to quickly tap this whiskery-type needle to its needed place. He then removes the plastic tube and makes a slight adjustment on the needle to ensure it’s secure and doing its proper job.
On very rare occasion you might feel a tiny pin prick, but even this level of pain is not common. These acupuncture needles are so thin that you feel more of a small tightening sensation. During the session, which usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, you might feel an even greater tightening sensation in your skin around the needle. Not to be alarmed! It simply means your acupuncture is working. The sensation is actually called Daqi (da-chee), meaning “getting the Qi.” Feeling the “Daqi” sensation means the treatment is, indeed, doing its work to clear the blockages in your meridian pathways.
