How Acupuncture Works

The primary source of health care for China, Japan and Korea for more than 3000 years, acupuncture is now used by more than one billion people every year to vastly improve their health and increase their energy and vitality.

Acupuncture promotes natural healing in the body without relying on surgery, cutting into tissue, or prescription medications. Acupuncture isn’t only used on the front end of disease and discomfort, but on the recuperation of your body after physical trauma.

Even chronic sufferers find that acupuncture can often clear their issues permanently with just a few visits. Unlike other modes of “physical therapy” or “preventative medicine,” acupuncture does not expect or anticipate to see you as a lifelong patient! Dr. Grant Collins’ only goal and objective is to get you back to a wonderfully healthy place where you don’t need him anymore!

How acupuncture works is based on a simple premise:

To be healthy, your tissues and organs need a proper supply of  blood and oxygen to carry all the nutrients you need to every point in your body. In fact, there are actual pathways in your body for this process that are referred to as “meridian pathways.” Within these meridians, there are more than 300 points where a blockage can impede blood and oxygen flow.

These meridian blockages (also referred to as “Qi” (chee) blockages) occur mainly due to trauma, either physical or emotional. Depending on where this trauma attacks within the meridian, you might not actually feel pain – you might, instead, feel lethargic or tired or simply feel that you’re struggling somehow. You’re not really aware of the blockages and they can go unnoticed and undetected on your side but, if  left untreated, these blockages can begin to create an area of the body that stops healing or loses function. In other points along your meridians, nerves and blood vessels come together and, when blocked, pain occurs.  Interestingly, the pain you feel in one part of your body is often related to a meridian in a completely different area of your body.

As Orange County’s most recommended Acupuncturist, Grant Collins determines where the blockages are in your body and – during the treatment – removes those blockages to restore function and health. It’s really very simple how acupuncture works, yet it must be incorporated and put into action in your behalf by an acupuncturist who knows exactly what he is doing.
